Alejandro Jiménez, Global Commercial Development Director of the Water Division of ACCIONA, recently participated on the “Corporate Water Leaders Panel” organised by Global Water Intelligence magazine, a discussion forum in which sector experts debated and analysed the impact and consequences of Covid-19 on the management of water at a global level.
In webinar format, the participants analysed the present situation and contributed ideas and opinions to try and answer the question: Where are we heading?
In his intervention, Alejandro Jiménez argued that the impact of Covid-19 has not been so severe in the water sector in comparison with others. Although delays have been experienced in some projects, most of the company’s operations have continued as planned to guarantee the provision of an essential service for the population.
Among the positive aspects highlighted by the crisis, he pointed out the lessons learned in the mitigation strategies implemented, including better communication with stakeholders, teleworking and prevention and safety measures applied in plants/sites.
In this new scenario, Alejandro Jiménez considers that interesting opportunities have emerged in terms of digitization and new sources of finance for the sector.
In this respect, he highlighted ACCIONA’s commitment to digital solutions as part of its long-term strategy. Projects such as the Water Control Center (CECOA), which compiles data from ACCIONA’s treatment plants all over the world and uses it to optimize processes, are a reality in the company’s day-to-day operation, offering considerable potential to clients.
