ACCIONA Water to upgrade wastewater treatment in eight towns in the Vallès district of Barcelona

  • The contract represents approximately 2 million euros in annual turnover

ACCIONA Water has been awarded a contract for the operation, upkeep, maintenance and upgrading of the La Llagosta sewer system, which comprises a number of towns in Barcelona province, specifically in the Vallès Oriental and Vallès Occidental districts: La Llagosta, Martorelles, Mollet del Vallès, Santa Perpètua de Mogoda, Sant Fost de Campsentelles, Sentmenat, Palau-solità i Plegamans and Polinyà.

These towns are served by a wastewater treatment plant designed to serve the equivalent of 358,000 residents which processes 30,000 m3 of municipal wastewater per day using biological and chemical processes for eliminating organic matter and phosphorus, as well as anaerobic digestion to stabilise and reduce the resulting sludge. ACCIONA Water's proposal includes a number of measures to optimise energy consumption in the biological treatment and sludge processing facilities.

The contract is for one year, with the possibility of a one-year extension, according to the conditions imposed by the Consorci Besòs Tordera, and it is expected to generate 2 million euros in annual turnover.

ACCIONA Water currently holds 160 contracts for the operation and maintenance of water treatment plants, both conventional and industrial. Its goal is to optimise processes by applying cutting-edge technology, minimising energy consumption, ensuring optimal water treatment performance, monitoring water quality, and assuring proper environmental management of sludge, waste and by-products from the treatment processes.
