Since its founding, ACCIONA Agua has developed innovative solutions to the wide range of problems that arise in the treatment of potable water.
ACCIONA Agua has built more than 115 drinking water treatment plants in total, with a capacity of 8.1 M m3/d , which together supply more than 30 million people.
The original G&AWS scheme was developed in 1895 when C. Y. O'Connor engineered a scheme to deliver 23 MLD of untreated water to the Goldfields region through the construction of the Mundaring Weir, 530 kilometres of 30” pipeline, and delivered using eight steam-driven pumping stations. A world class engineering feat of the era! Since then this water system has been progressively upgraded, the new Mundaring Water Treatment Plant and pumping stations being the latest of these improvements to be implemented.
The project is part of an overall plan aimed at improving drinking water supply along the Rabat-Casablanca coastline.
This is the second water treatment plant built by ACCIONA Agua in the country, following Menta (1,250 l/s).
ACCIONA operates and maintains the Simbirizzi drinking water treatment plant in Sardinia.
The plant provides water to the towns of Fajardo, Ceiba and Luquillo, from a reservoir fed by the River Fajardo.
